The Honest Truth on GUN VIOLENCE

Unbelievable! Another school shooting, this time in Santa Fe, Texas; not that the location matters as much as the fear spread and lives lost. It is beyond time that the “REAL” issues on the matter of school shootings be addressed. These incidents are due to the severe lack of know how when it comes to addressing the plight of the “lost children.” The lost children are those who do not quite fit in socially due most often to their Aspie-like traits (traits commonly found in Asperger’s Syndrome). These children/adults are often awkward. They tend not to have many, if any friends. The lost children are also very often targets of bullying by their peers and/or completely ignored as if they do not exist. They can usually be found eating lunches and at recess time alone. It is common for them to experience challenges with social interaction in almost all environments. The Aspie traits people tend to have very strained relationships with their parents and siblings. The lost children are often unintentionally treated like the black sheep in their families.  In addition, they also are deemed the outcast in their social world. Due in part to the difficult time the Aspie person has making genuine connections with other human beings, the ability to engage in horrific acts of violence is heightened. Add in the fact that they are more likely mistreated by most people because they are so greatly misunderstood and you produce a child/adult who could potentially be a danger to both themselves and others. Most of the Aspie children that I have worked with over the years at some point and time have expressed either suicide/homicidal ideation or both. Even though the need for better gun control laws is a DEFINITE factor, it still takes PEOPLE to commit the act.  It is time to call to the carpet those who are in charge of participating in the raising of our children. It becomes the responsibility parents, schools, daycare providers, social service agencies and others who have the most access to our children to learn what they need in order to understand and teach the Aspie traits kids. The traditional methods offered out there such as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are often ineffective for the most hypersensitive Aspie-traits children. The “Raising Asp-holes” mini-book series will introduce to the world wisdom accumulated through 20 years of experience successfully engaging the difficult to manage, reach, and treat hypersensitive child. Mini-Book #1The “Lafaya Way” offers a unique advanced relational approach that assists in gaining the breakthrough needed to develop positive relationships with difficult to engage children/adults. The book series will go on to offer tangible ways to bridge the gap between healthy relationships and building of empathetic behaviors in the lost children. Resources like the “Raising Asp-holes” series will revolutionize the way people view and respond to our lost children. Those entities charged with the care of our children would do well to learn all that they can to help the children struggling with social deficits. It is this writer’s belief that the 1st real step towards eliminating those incidents of school experience related suicide and in-school violence is to get to those who are suffering from the inability to fit in and connect to other human beings.
